The Jucumari also called Spectacled Bear is the only native bear of South America. The characteristics of this beautiful animal are white or brown stains that cover his face, producing the image of clear spectacles around the eyes, the form and quantity of the white or brown stains may differ.

It is a solitary animal, which shelters in the trees or in natural caves, it is mainly vegetarian.

The Spectacled Bear is found in the mountainous regions of the Andes, from Venezuela to Argentina but not everywhere.

In Bolivia, it is located along the eastern flank of the Eastern Cordillera, in the mountainous forests, moist moors and mountain forests, within the departments of La Paz, Beni, Cochabamba, Santa Cruz, Chuquisaca and Tarija.

The protected areas of Madidi, Apolobamba, Cotapata, Pilon Lajas, Isiboro Sécure, Carrasco, Amboró, El Palmar, Tariquia and Aguarague and the national parks of Altamachi and Tunari are home to this species that unfortunately is at risk of extinction, due to factors such as the destruction and fragmentation of their natural habitat, poaching and knowledge gaps.

Our company’s name is a simple tribute to this beautiful animal that is part of the Bolivian fauna. The use of the name “Jucumari“ responds to the conservationist vocation and our deep respect we feel for the preservation of the biodiversity of Bolivia and the planet in general.
